Final year History and Political science student at the University of Birmingham and candidate of Msc International and Asian History at the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, William has a wide range of professional and research experience reading and writing History in both academia and civil society. He is a historian of 19th century Hong Kong, Late Imperial China and the early republican period. He works on the discourse and imperial development of British colonialism from the early 19th century to the 20th. He now works on 19th-century protestant missionary education in Hong Kong and China, and how missionaries’ effort transformed Hong Kong into a modern society and China from Empire to modern Nation-state.

William aims to land his first role in the Public Affairs constituency sector. He thinks that a better understanding of the historical roots of things and human agency would lead to a better society. In addition, he advocates using interactive storytelling methods and platforms such as videos, podcasts, Instagram posts and stories, and newsletters to campaign for Oneminute History’s movement.

William spends much time debating and discussing Sino-British relations. In the 2018 Conservative Party Conference, he greeted many Cabinet Ministers, including the then Home Secretary to explain Chinese policies for four days. William also debated at The University of Birmingham Debating Society on February 21 2019 on the question of “This House Believes That the British electorate deserves a Final Say on the Brexit deal” as opposition. In February 2020, he won an award from the then International Development Secretary Rt Hon. Alok Sharma MP for his contributions to the UK – China relations.
